Frequently Asked Questions
Question: I am unhappy with the way my physician has handled my care, or the care of a loved one. I don't want to make a big formal complaint, but would like my side of the story heard, and want the doctor to know about my concerns.
Answer: The ECMS will provide a willing ear to listen to any concerns and bring them to your Doctor's attention. Even if you are thinking of a more formal complaint, remember that often the air can be cleared by contacting the ECMS and letting us try to resolve the matter to everyone's satisfaction, instead of involving an outside party. Often there has been a misunderstanding and a reestablishment of simple communication with a mediator from the Society will help.
Question: My son cut his hand so badly, he needed to have a tendon repair, but couldn't see the surgeon until the next day. Why are there delays in accessing care?
Answer: Remember all the cutbacks over the past year? Those cuts affected the number of doctors who are still available to provide care as well as the number of patient they can see. There are fewer OR spaces available, fewer nurses, and therefore we sometimes have to wait. The ECMS condemns the decreased of funding that has occurred , and warns the public that unless the attitude of government changes, this is going to get much worse.

If you have problems or concerns about the health care system or
about your own care, you can call the ECMS (519) 256-4611, and we will try to help. If you
have a complaint or a bit of praise, tell us and we will help to resolve the problem, or
pass along the positives. As you ask us questions on the web site, we will begin to post
more answers as we begin to know your concerns.
