Collegiality and Interaction through Social Events for Physicians and Families
The ECMS through the local Specialty Academies and numerous social events (Medical Dental Dinner, President's Ball, Curling Bonspiel, Golf Tournament, Family Skating and the Annual Dinner Meeting) throughout the year provides opportunities for physician and family interaction. The ECMS events are also the best way to meet the majority of your fellow physicians.
Continuing Medical Education
We are active in Continuing Medical Education events providing practice management seminars, the annual South Western Ontario Medical Education Day (SWOMED) as well as through the Academies. The ECMS Bulletin, web page and fax system provides access to events and issues that are important to the local physicians.
Medical School
The Essex County Medical Society is very successful in its involvement in the development of the new medical school.and we are also planning to organize a Clinical Teachers Association with future negotiations with the MOHLTC.
Community Visibility and Media representation
The Essex County Medical Society is one of the most active medical societies in the province. Our Society, although originally meant to be an organization for collegial purposes, has become an integral voice for our profession and community locally. We are often approached by media representatives for local opinions regarding government health interventions. During hospital reconfiguration the District Health Council and hospitals sought the opinions of the Society representatives. We are also represented on the Physician Recruitment and Retention group and have represented our member physicians to local hospital boards and executive committees.
